YOU'VE GOT QUESTIONS

Let's chat.

WHY IS IT CALLED THE OCEAN ROOM?

I was born and raised in Rhode Island. My hometown is about ten minutes from the ocean in any direction and while I've made a wonderful new home here in Harrisonburg, I hold my seaside town near to my heart. In yoga we have ujjayi breathing, sometimes called the ocean breath, which I remember as one of my earliest connections to yoga. As I was setting up my training space, I googled "ocean symbolism" and was met with this:  "Due to its enormous size, power, and mystery, the ocean has over time accrued many symbolic meanings. These include power, strength, life, peace, mystery, chaos, boundlessness, and stability. " Power, strength, stability, peace, and mystery was a beautiful harmony of yoga and strength training and spoke perfectly to what I hope to help my clients achieve.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU HAVE IN THE OCEAN ROOM?

All of our equipment is commercial grade. We have a barbell rack with over 200lbs of weight as needed, a functional trainer cable machine, and assorted dumbbells (small sizes through 50lb pairs), and a treadmill. These four pieces are our large major staples, and are the backbone of our strength training programs. Other equipment will be acquired over time. Olympic weight lifting is not permitted.

DO YOU CREATE TRAINING CUSTOM PLANS?

When you buy a personal training package all sessions are tailored just for you, your goals, and your body. The opportunities to collaborate together to make your plan as specific as you want are endless. I will find the balance with the repetition needed to create results and a varied and enjoyable program that will make working out fun (as it should be).

WHAT IS A 1:1 TRAINING SESSION WITH YOU LIKE?

It depends on your goals and what we are working on! Typically, sessions will start with warm up, then we will move into some core and balance activation, and then strength training. Most programs focus around some level of progressive overload which means that we are actively working to get stronger each week. A variety of variables (reps, sets, intensity, etc.) will factor into what progressive overload means for you.

WHAT DOES TRAINING COST?

Reach out so we can talk about your needs. Training is more expensive than a group exercise class as you're receiving 1:1 on attention from me; the results are worth the investment. Prices are not published on the web because they can vary based on your individual needs and your investment. Discovery calls are risk free, I'm always available to talk- reach out!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POWER YOGA AND VINYASA YOGA? DO YOU OFFER AN ALL LEVELS  OR BEGINNER YOGA CLASS?

Power yoga is going to be a little bit faster and I give a lot of options and opportunities to play with arm balances and inversions. Vinyasa classes with me, are going to be a little bit more methodical. I have a learning objective in mind whether it is a "peak" pose we are working up to or a specific skill. While I don't offer any all levels or beginner classes right now, all curious yogis are welcome in any of my classes.

I WANT TO COME TO POWER YOGA BUT I DON'T PRACTICE ARM BALANCES AND INVERSIONS, IS THAT OKAY?

If you have no interest in ever balancing on your head, hands, arms, cool- you never have to do it. If you don't practice them because you don't know how- let's play and learn. My power yoga class offers lots of opportunities to try the postures and I offer a lots of instruction on how to work up to them. Got specific questions? Ask them, class can be chatty- it isn't a sacred space.
